About the Journal
The International Journal of Special Needs Education is the official publication of the Department of Special Needs Education, Faculty of Education, University of Nigeria, Nsukka. The journal aims to provide a platform for young researchers and scholars worldwide to share research and insights relevant to the field of special education. It is a multidisciplinary journal that publishes original and theoretical contributions on topics such as disability, creativity, gifted education, and the delivery of special education programs and services to individuals with disabilities globally.

Editorial Policy
The International Journal of Special Needs Education welcomes original articles on various aspects of special education. Both experimental and theoretical articles are encouraged, with submissions accepted from researchers across the world. In addition to research articles, the journal seeks reviews of research, historical and philosophical analyses, and evidence-based reports on the effectiveness of innovative approaches in special education.

Author’s Guidelines

  1. Manuscript Submission
    o Manuscripts must be submitted electronically to the following email address: editor.sped@unn.edu.ng.
    o All submissions must be in Microsoft Word (DOC) format. Manuscripts in other formats will not be accepted.
  2. Manuscript Length
    o Manuscripts should not exceed 16 pages, single-spaced, including tables, figures, and references.
  3. Manuscript Structure
    Manuscripts should follow this structure:
    o Title Page: Should contain the full title of the article, author(s) names, institutional affiliations, and corresponding author contact details (including email, telephone number, and mailing address).
    o Abstract: A concise abstract (150–250 words) summarizing the article’s key points should precede the main text.
    o Keywords: Up to 5 keywords representing the core topics of the article should be listed after the abstract.
    o Main Text: The main body of the article should follow logical sections such as Introduction, Methods, Results, Discussion, and Conclusion (for empirical studies).
    o References: All references should follow the APA 7th edition citation style.
    o Acknowledgments: Any acknowledgments of support or contributions should be placed at the end of the manuscript before references.
  4. Tables and Figures
    o Tables and figures should be placed within the text at the appropriate places and must be numbered sequentially (e.g., Table 1, Figure 1).
    o All tables and figures should be accompanied by descriptive titles and captions.
  5. Citation and Reference Style
    o All submissions must follow the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (7th edition) for in-text citations and reference lists.
    o Ensure that all sources cited in the text are listed in the references section and vice versa. References should be accurate and complete.
  6. Formatting Requirements
    o Font: Manuscripts should be submitted in 12-point Times New Roman font.
    o Margins: Use 1-inch (2.54 cm) margins on all sides.
    o Spacing: Manuscripts must be single-spaced.
    o Headings: Use APA style for headings and subheadings.
    o Page Numbers: Number all pages consecutively.
  7. Ethical Guidelines
    o Authors must ensure that their research complies with ethical standards regarding research involving human subjects, including obtaining informed consent where necessary.
    o Any potential conflicts of interest should be disclosed.
    o Plagiarism is strictly prohibited. Submissions will be screened for originality.
  8. Peer Review Process
    o All manuscripts will undergo a blind peer-review process by at least two independent reviewers. The identities of both reviewers and authors are kept confidential throughout the process.
    o The review process typically takes 6 to 8 weeks. Authors will be notified of the editorial decision once reviews are completed.
    o Revisions, if necessary, must be resubmitted within the timeframe provided by the editors.
  9. Copyright and Permissions
    o Authors must ensure that their manuscripts do not infringe on any copyright. If the manuscript contains material from other sources (e.g., figures, tables), authors must obtain permission to use these materials and provide evidence of permissions.
    o Upon acceptance, authors will be required to sign a copyright transfer agreement, granting exclusive rights to the journal for publishing the article.
  10. Proofs and Publication
    · After acceptance, authors will receive proofs of their articles for review before publication. It is the authors’ responsibility to check the proofs carefully and respond promptly with any corrections.
    · The journal reserves the right to make minor edits to enhance clarity or formatting before publication.

  12. Corresponding Author Responsibilities
    · The corresponding author will act as the main point of contact throughout the review and publication process. They are responsible for communicating with co-authors and ensuring that all authors agree with the final manuscript and revisions.
    · Contact details, including email address and phone number, for the corresponding author should be clearly indicated on the title page.
